The Opéra Bastille is defined by a massive, curved façade of transparent glass and steel that looks out over the Place de la Bastille. Built on the site of a former railway station, this modern structure opened in nineteen eighty-nine to mark the two-hundredth anniversary of the French Revolution. Its design, by Canadian-Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott, features an auditorium with over two thousand seven hundred seats and technical capabilities for complex, grand-scale productions.
