Square René Le Gall

landmark

Square René Le Gall is identifiable by four concrete gazebos set within a geometric rose garden. Designed by architect Jean-Charles Moreux and built between nineteen thirty-six and nineteen thirty-eight, the park occupies a site once known as the Île aux Singes, or Island of Monkeys. This name emerged when the area was a riverine pocket between two branches of the Bièvre, a stream where performers would set their monkeys free to entertain workers from the nearby Gobelins tapestry factory.
