Station F

Station F is recognizable by the three parallel, slender concrete vaults that stretch three hundred ten meters long, creating a structure often compared to the Eiffel Tower lying on its side. This massive hall was originally built between nineteen twenty-seven and nineteen twenty-nine as a rail freight depot called the Halle Freyssinet. Engineer Eugène Freyssinet designed the building using an innovative technique for pre-stressed reinforced concrete, which allowed the vaults to reach extreme thinness, in some places less than five centimeters at the roof ridge.
