Zhou enlai

A small, unassuming building on Rue Godefroy carries a marble plaque marking the residence of Zhou Enlai between nineteen twenty-two and nineteen twenty-four. Zhou, who later served as the first premier of the People's Republic of China, lived in this modest space while he was a young political activist in Paris. The site is recognized today as the location where he helped organize the European branches of various Chinese political groups, often working in a room barely large enough to hold a bed, a desk, and a chair.
