Square Lamartine

park garden

Square Lamartine is a rectangular green space in the sixteenth arrondissement that occupies the site of a nineteenth-century residential project. It stretches between Avenue Victor-Hugo and Avenue Henri-Martin, serving as a quiet anchor for the surrounding neighborhood. A fountain stands near the entrance, drawing residents who arrive with bottles to collect water from an artesian well drilled between eighteen fifty-five and eighteen sixty-one. This well originally supplied water to the lakes and rivers of the Bois de Boulogne before it became a local source for drinking water.
