Cimetière de la Villette

The Cimetière de la Villette sits tucked behind a wall at forty-six Rue d’Hautpoul, marked by the canopy of nearly one hundred maple, lime, and chestnut trees that rise above its perimeter. Opened in eighteen twenty-eight, this small burial ground spans just over one hectare and houses twenty-five hundred graves. It originally served the independent commune of La Villette before becoming a municipal cemetery for the nineteenth arrondissement following the annexation of eighteen sixty.
