Lycée Condorcet

The Lycée Condorcet in the ninth arrondissement of Paris is defined by a distinct cloister with columned galleries, a feature that remains from its origins as a convent. Founded in eighteen oh three, it is one of the four oldest high schools in the city. Before the French Revolution, the site served as the convent of the Capuchins, which was built between seventeen eighty-one and seventeen eighty-three by the architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart. After the convent was seized as national property, the buildings were adapted to house a school that became known for its liberal atmosphere and progressivism throughout the nineteenth century.
