Alcazar d'Été

The Alcazar d'Été, now known as the Pavillon Gabriel, stands near the gardens of the Champs-Élysées. It began as a café-concert in eighteen sixty, when a theater owner named Arsène Goubert acquired an existing pavilion to give his winter audiences a fresh-air alternative during the summer months. By offering open-air performances, he provided a relief from the stifling, gaslit indoor venues that dominated the city during the warmer season.
