The Cirque d'Été once stood at the Rond-Point of the Champs-Élysées, a site recognizable today as being near the current Théâtre Marigny. Designed by architect Jacques Hittorff and opened in eighteen forty-one, this immense equestrian theater featured a rotunda structure built from meulière stone. Its exterior walls were lined with sixteen sides, each decorated with a sculpted horse head, while four fluted columns supported a Greek-style pediment at the entrance.
