The Impasse de la Merci is a narrow, enclosed alleyway tucked away near the Place Saint-Projet in the heart of the city. Over centuries, the site has cycled through many identities, once serving as the setting for the Saint-Catherine chapel and its associated cemetery. By the early eighteenth century, the burial ground had been replaced by gardens, and the chapel itself was eventually repurposed by a local guild of tapestry makers who operated there under the authority of the local commander.
