The Rue des Teinturiers is defined by the narrow Sorgue canal that runs along its length, where four remaining wooden paddle wheels still turn in the water. This street takes its name from the textile workers who occupied the area between the fourteenth and nineteenth centuries, using the canal’s flow to power machinery for washing, rinsing, and dyeing fabrics.
