Les Halles d'Avignon is a covered food market on Place Pie, easily identified by the sprawling vertical garden that cloaks its north façade. This wall of foliage, spanning thirty by eleven and a half meters, was designed by botanist Patrick Blanc in two thousand five to soften the appearance of the functional, mid-twentieth-century structure. Inside, about forty merchants sell local Provençal specialties, from fresh seafood and cured meats to regional cheeses and olives.
