The Musée du Petit Palais is identifiable by its crenellated fourteenth-century façade, which features prominent mullioned windows. Housed in the former palace of the Archbishops of Avignon, the building sits on the square next to the imposing Palais des Papes. It officially opened as a museum in nineteen seventy-six, though the structure itself dates back to the era of the Avignon Papacy, when it was constructed for Cardinal Berengar Fredol.
