The Einar Jónsson Museum

The Einar Jónsson Museum stands on the hill of Skólavörðuholt, a site that was once a desolate space on the edge of town. Completed in nineteen twenty-three, this building holds the distinction of being the first public art museum in Iceland. Its exterior features an ornate facade, but the building itself serves a more personal purpose: it was designed by the artist Einar Jónsson to house his life's work.
