The Unknown Bureaucrat

The Monument to the Unknown Bureaucrat stands near the northern edge of the city pond, Tjörnin, positioned at the end of the footbridge leading to Reykjavík City Hall. Created by Icelandic sculptor Magnús Tómasson in nineteen ninety-four, the bronze and basalt sculpture depicts a man in a business suit walking forward with a briefcase in his hand. Instead of a head and torso, a massive, unhewn block of volcanic basalt rests atop his shoulders, obscuring his identity entirely.
