The Ades Synagogue is marked by a boxlike exterior of Jerusalem stone that belies the intricate sanctuary held within. Founded in nineteen oh one by Syrian immigrants from Aleppo, the building was financed by cousins Ovadiah and Yosef Ades to provide a permanent home for their community in the Nahalat Zion neighborhood. Its interior is dominated by a dark walnut ark from Damascus, inlaid with mother-of-pearl and bronze.
