Mazkeret Moshe

Mazkeret Moshe is distinguished by its layout as a historic courtyard neighborhood, defined by rows of stone houses that face inward toward shared, open spaces. Founded in eighteen eighty-three with funds from the Yehudit and Moshe Montefiore Foundation, the neighborhood was built to mark the ninetieth birthday of Sir Moses Montefiore. It was originally designed to provide housing for Ashkenazi families moving out of the overcrowded conditions of the Old City.
