Museum of The Underground Prisoners

The Museum of the Underground Prisoners occupies a stone building in the Russian Compound characterized by the Russian inscription above its entrance that identifies it as the Marianskya Women's Hostel. Originally built in the eighteen sixties to house Christian pilgrims, the structure was converted by the British Mandatory authorities into the central prison of Jerusalem. Throughout the years of the British Mandate, this site held both criminal prisoners and members of the Jewish underground groups Haganah, Irgun, and Lehi.
