Ohel Moshe

Ohel Moshe is identified by its dense, inward-facing courtyard architecture, where low houses of Jerusalem stone cluster around a central square. Established in eighteen eighty-three, it was one of the early neighborhoods built outside the walls of the Old City to relieve overcrowding. The neighborhood was named for the British philanthropist Sir Moses Montefiore and specifically designated for Sephardic Jewish families, while the adjacent Mazkeret Moshe was founded for Ashkenazi residents.
