Abarbanel Street is characterized by its tree-lined, narrow, one-lane design, a hallmark of the garden city principles applied to the Rehavia neighborhood. The structures here, typically built from Jerusalem stone, were developed starting in the nineteen twenties when the area was established on land leased from the Greek Orthodox Church. Rehavia was designed by architect Richard Kauffmann to serve as an aristocratic enclave for intellectuals and early leaders of the Jewish settlement.
