Nymphaeum

The Nymphaeum is defined by the massive, four hundred and fifty-year-old wild pistachio tree that shades its stone foundations near the junction of Wadi Musa and Wadi al-Mataha. This structure was a public fountain in ancient Petra, named for the female nature spirits of classical mythology. It stood as a civic ornament along the city’s Colonnaded Street, functioning as both a vital water repository and a social hub where travelers and locals gathered to escape the desert heat.
