Al-Siq

The Siq is a narrow, winding gorge that stretches for one point two kilometers through towering sandstone cliffs, forming the primary entrance to the ancient city of Petra. Created by tectonic forces that split the mountain in two, the passage is characterized by walls that reach heights of up to one hundred ninety meters and narrow to as little as three meters across. Its path follows a gentle, serpentine gradient that guides travelers toward the city’s most recognizable monument, the Treasury.
