The Lion Fountain is a rock-cut monument carved into the red sandstone along the Wadi Al-Farasa processional route. It is easily identified by the stone lion, now headless, which once functioned as a water spout for travelers climbing toward the High Place of Sacrifice. Dating from between two hundred BC and two hundred AD, this structure highlights the Nabataean ability to transform essential desert infrastructure into decorative art.
