The most distinctive feature of the Place des Alaouites is the set of massive, gold-finished bronze gates that serve as the main entrance to the Royal Palace. These gates, which display intricate geometric patterns, were constructed between nineteen sixty-nine and nineteen seventy-one as part of a significant modernization of the palace entrance. They are widely recognized as a prominent example of modern Moroccan craftsmanship, featuring detailed mosaic tilework and carved cedar wood that contrast with the gleaming metal doors.
