The Great Mosque of Fes el-Jdid is identifiable by its tall, square minaret featuring thirteenth-century polychrome brickwork. Built around twelve seventy-six, this structure was a central part of the new royal city, or Fes el-Jdid, which Sultan Abu Yusuf Yaqub established to serve as the Marinid capital.
