Chrabliyine Mosque

The Chrabliyine Mosque is distinguished by a tall minaret that rises above the market streets of Fes el-Bali, covered in intricate geometric patterns, horseshoe arches, and multicolored mosaic tiles known as zellij. Founded in thirteen forty-two during the Marinid dynasty, the building anchors a neighborhood historically named for the slipper-makers who crafted a traditional style of women’s shoe called the cherbil. While the minaret and primary entrance retain their early medieval design, the structure underwent significant renovations between seventeen ninety-two and eighteen twenty-two under the Alaouite sultan Moulay Slimane.
