Place Nejjarine

landmark

The Nejjarine is defined by its monumental entrance, where a heavy, intricately carved wooden canopy overhangs the doorway and transitions into elaborate stucco and zellij tilework. This building was constructed in seventeen eleven as a fondouk, or caravanserai, to serve as a warehouse and inn for traveling merchants. Its name links it to the neighboring carpenters' market, a trade presence that has persisted here since the Marinid era.
