The Borj Nord displays a square layout and four prominent, arrowhead-shaped bastions that create a star-like silhouette against the sky. The Saadi Sultan Ahmed al-Mansour ordered the construction of this fortress in fifteen eighty-two. Thick, reinforced walls define the structure, designed to withstand heavy artillery fire. The sultan positioned this northern tower, along with its southern counterpart, Borj Sud, to command the city from the hills, both to deter foreign invasion and to monitor the population within Fez.
