University of Warsaw

The University of Warsaw is defined by its historic Main Campus, where a collection of classicist palaces and stately buildings lines Krakowskie Przedmieście Street. Established in eighteen sixteen by a decree from Tsar Alexander the First, the institution was created to provide a center for higher learning after Warsaw was cut off from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków during the partitions of Poland.
