Rynek Starego Miasta

Rynek Starego Miasta features rows of colorful, pastel-toned townhouses that enclose a rectangular space. Established in the late thirteenth century, the square served for hundreds of years as the central marketplace and civic hub of Warsaw. In the aftermath of the Warsaw Uprising in nineteen forty-four, the German army systematically destroyed nearly every structure. The buildings consist of a postwar reconstruction, finished in the nineteen fifties using historical paintings, photographs, and salvaged fragments to mirror their prewar appearance.
