Warsaw Barbican

The Warsaw Barbican is a heavy, semicircular red-brick fortification that marks the transition between the Old and New Towns. Designed by the Italian architect Jan Baptist the Venetian and completed in fifteen-forty, it was intended to bolster the city's defenses by protecting the Nowomiejska Street gate. Its three-level structure, originally featuring four towers and a moat, stands as one of the few relics of the extensive defensive network that once enclosed the historic center.
