Mathematical Bridge

The Mathematical Bridge is a wooden footbridge spanning the River Cam at Queens' College, easily identified by the way it appears to be a graceful, curved arch while being constructed entirely from straight wooden beams. Designed by William Etheridge and built by James Essex in seventeen forty-nine, the structure relies on a sophisticated arrangement of tangent and radial trusses to distribute weight and maintain its elegant shape.
