The Senate House is defined by its neoclassical facade of Portland stone and a distinctive balustrade that lines the roof. Built between seventeen twenty-two and seventeen thirty, this structure was designed by architect James Gibbs to house the governing Senate of the University of Cambridge. It stands near the Old Schools as a site once used for vital political and administrative decisions, though today it serves primarily as the stage for university degree ceremonies.
