Peterhouse

Peterhouse is defined by the altar end of its chapel, which rises as the most prominent feature visible from Trumpington Street. Founded in twelve eighty-four by Hugo de Balsham, the Bishop of Ely, it holds the distinction of being the oldest constituent college at the University of Cambridge. The institution began after a disagreement between scholars and the brethren at the Hospital of Saint John, prompting the bishop to move his students to this current site to house a master and fourteen fellows.
