University Museum Of Zoology

The University Museum of Zoology in Cambridge is marked by a massive, articulated fin whale skeleton suspended in its glass-fronted entrance hall. This institution originated from two nineteenth-century collections: the Museum of Comparative Anatomy, established in eighteen fourteen, and the collection of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, founded in eighteen nineteen by Adam Sedgwick and John Stevens Henslow. These collections merged on this site in eighteen sixty-five, eventually growing to include over two million specimens ranging from fossils to insects and mammals.
