St Bene’t’s Church

St Bene’t’s Church is recognizable by its rugged stone tower, which dates to the early eleventh century and stands as the oldest building in all of Cambridge. Built around the year one thousand twenty during the reign of King Cnut, the tower features distinct long and short stonework at its corners. A heavy arch at the base of the tower links it to the body of the church, decorated with two carvings of grotesque beasts that have survived for a millennium.
