Brasenose College is recognizable by the bronze lion-faced door knocker that gives the institution its name. The original thirteenth-century piece is now mounted above the high table in the college dining hall. Centuries ago, this same knocker hung on the gates of Brasenose Hall, a medieval academic hall that occupied this site before the college was formally founded in fifteen oh nine.
