Merton College Chapel

Merton College Chapel is defined by its unusual T-shape, the result of a grand plan that was never finished. While the choir was completed in the late thirteenth century to replace a local parish church, the intended nave was never built. Instead, the land was leased away in fifteen seventeen to the founder of neighboring Corpus Christi College. This accidental floor plan, featuring transepts added in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, became a template for many other college chapels throughout Oxford and Cambridge.
