The building known as the Abbot's Kitchen in Oxford is a stone-built structure featuring a distinctive octagonal shape. It was constructed in the Victorian Gothic style and opened in eighteen sixty as one of the first purpose-built chemical laboratories in the world. Its design intentionally replicates the architecture of the fourteenth-century Abbot's Kitchen at Glastonbury Abbey, a medieval building that served as a kitchen for the abbot and his guests.
