Convocation House

Convocation House is defined by its tiered wooden benches that line all four sides of the room, creating an interior space centered on debate. Built between sixteen thirty-four and sixteen thirty-seven as an extension to the Bodleian Library, the room was designed to serve as the meeting chamber for the university's supreme governing body, the Convocation. Its layout, with benches facing each other, reflects the environment where masters and doctors once gathered to decide the operations of the university.
