Exeter College

Exeter College is the fourth-oldest college at the University of Oxford, founded in thirteen fourteen by Walter de Stapledon, the Bishop of Exeter. The college is marked by the soaring, neo-Gothic chapel on its front quadrangle, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the mid-nineteenth century and inspired by the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. While the college has occupied this Turl Street site for over seven centuries, the only surviving structure from its medieval origin is Palmer’s Tower, built in fourteen thirty-two.
