Well Court

Well Court is a distinct collection of buildings in Dean Village, identifiable by its bright red sandstone and a prominent clock tower capped with an angular copper dome. Completed in eighteen eighty-six, the complex was commissioned by Sir John Findlay, who owned the Scotsman newspaper, to replace dilapidated tenements in the area. Architect Sydney Mitchell designed the site as a model community for local artisans and tradesmen, arranging small, comfortable flats around a central, enclosed courtyard.
