Holy Family Catholic Church stands at the corner of West Fifth Avenue and H Street, easily identified by the light off-white exterior of its Romanesque Revival structure. Established as a parish in nineteen fifteen, the same year the city of Anchorage was founded, it began as a simple wooden building designed by a traveling priest. The current church, completed in nineteen forty-eight, survived the nineteen sixty-four earthquake that caused widespread destruction across South Central Alaska.
