Wendler Building

The Wendler Building is distinguished by the hexagonal Victorian turret rising from its corner, a feature unique among the structures in downtown Anchorage. Constructed in nineteen fifteen, it stands as the city's oldest permanent commercial building. Anton and Florence Wendler originally erected the two-story, wood-framed edifice at the corner of Fourth Avenue and I Street to house the Larson-Wendler Company, which served as the growing town's first general merchandise store.
