Hotel Captain Cook

The Hotel Captain Cook occupies a full city block in downtown Anchorage, recognizable by its three connected towers that rise above the surrounding streets. This complex first opened in nineteen sixty-five, just one year after a massive earthquake devastated much of the city. Walter J. Hickel, a developer who later became the governor of Alaska, moved to build the hotel while others remained hesitant to invest in the city's recovery. He envisioned a structure that would signal stability and growth for a region struggling to rebuild.
