Haight Street Grounds

The Haight Street Grounds once occupied a rectangular stretch of land bounded by Stanyan, Waller, Shrader, and Frederick streets. Between eighteen eighty-seven and eighteen ninety-five, this was the city’s premier baseball park, built to serve the professional California League. While the name links it to Haight Street, the field actually sat just east of Golden Gate Park, where thousands of fans gathered to watch teams like the Pioneers and the Haverlys compete for twenty-five cents a head.
