Alcazar Theatre (1885)

The original Alcazar Theatre opened in eighteen eighty-five at one hundred sixteen O'Farrell Street. It was a project of Michael de Young, the owner of the San Francisco Chronicle, and was designed by architect William Patton. At its debut in November of that year, it was marketed as the handsomest decorated hall in the world, featuring a Moorish style meant to attract the family trade.
