Newton Tharp School and High School of Commerce

The large, fenced-in brick buildings at the corner of Fell and Franklin streets mark the historic site of the Newton J. Tharp Commercial School and the High School of Commerce. You can identify the former Commercial School by its sturdy, three-story brick and terracotta frame. These structures, collectively designated as San Francisco City Landmark number one hundred forty, served as an educational hub for decades before later housing administrative offices for the school district.
