R-Evolution (Cochrane)

R-Evolution stands forty-five feet tall in Embarcadero Plaza, a massive steel-mesh sculpture of a woman in a standing pose. Created by artist Marco Cochrane, the figure is constructed from steel rod and tubing held together by over fifty-five thousand welds. At night, the sculpture glows with internal light, and for one hour each day, motors within the chest move to simulate the rhythm of human breathing.
