The Prayer Book Cross is a towering, Celtic-style monument built from sixty-eight blocks of sandstone that rises above the foliage on a hill in Golden Gate Park. Unveiled on New Year’s Day in eighteen ninety-four during the Midwinter International Exposition, the structure reaches over fifty feet into the air. It was designed to be a prominent landmark, originally intended to be visible from the ocean, and it currently looms over the nearby Rainbow Falls.
